Raimunda, Paula her daughter and Sole her sister travel from Madrid, Spain to Alcanfor de las Infantas, a windy, superstitious place, to pay homage to their mother Irene. She died in the fire of her husband years ago. They visit Irene’s sister Paula who is an elderly senile aunt and raised Raimunda following the deaths of her parents. Later, they stop at the home of Agustina her friend and neighbor, who offers support for Paula. After a long day at work Raimunda returns to Madrid and finds her daughter distraught waiting for her at the bus station. Paula informs her mother when she arrives home that Paula killed Paco her father, an unemployed man who tried to rape and was totally drunk. Raimunda conceals the body of her father, but Sole rings to inform her that Paula, their aunt, has passed away. Sole goes alone the next day to the funeral. When she gets back to Madrid she discovers her mother in her trunk. Irene is brought to Sole's apartment by her mother, who reveals secrets about the past. --Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
